We’re excited to finally be launching our highly-anticipated El Capitan “GORGON” snapback! This cap is dedicated to Bunny Striker Lee: the LEGENDARY Jamaican record producer who is always seen rocking his trademark yachting cap, and was the inspiration for the El Capitan design made by Mike Nakayama since its release four years ago.
The El Capitan cap takes its design cues from the iconic Captain’s hat: a classic that always embodies leadership and commands respect. In Jamaican patois, ‘gorgon’ is used to refer to an individual who is very well-respected and outstanding in what he does. We’ve taken this status hat’s details and features and translated it on to a more youthful silhouette of a baseball cap for the younger generations to rock and carry over to the next.
This cap has allowed us to pay tribute to the man who influenced not only our designs, but has also touched many lives through the power of sweet, sweet music. WIP is truly honored to have his blessings! Bunny Striker Lee has worked with the Revolutionaries, Aggravators, King Tubby, King Beenie Man, Augustus Pablo, Sly & Robbie, Horace Andy and Barry Brown, Johnny Clarke and many more talented artists and musicians, producing timeless and classic tracks for every Reggae music lover out there. This is the man who was voted Best Producer Of The Year no less than eight times in his native Jamaica.
