We just unpacked a shipment of the Christian Cabuay x WIP Caps collab fitted. Called the 'Ka' cap, this collaboration is an overseas effort spanning from San Francisco USA. The name 'Ka' comes from the letter 'I' looking character from the BayBayin script. It's the traditional pre-Spanish era Philippine writing system. The front of the cap has this 'Ka' script over a crossed Calligraphy brush and a Filipino Native sword called the 'Maguindanao Kris'.
Expect to see the 'Ka' cap in our online store and at our retail partners real soon!

Still recovering from the ultra wicked B-Side weekend. Let's do the math. DO OVER Manila + IRIE SUNDAY Dancehall Bashment ÷ B-Side = √EPIC³. And the Rasta Soulja knit cap had a pretty good kick-off as well. Just Check back in a couple of days as we'll be posting photos and videos real soon. There's loads of B-roll stuff so we'll post those at the revived Nakayama blog.
In the meantime, here's another B-Side treat for the kids.
B-Side presents: A special film screening of 'BEATS, RHYMES & LIFE: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest'.

Event info here
'BEATS, RHYMES & LIFE: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest' is the award winning documentary by actor/director Michael Rapaport The film documents the back ground story as well as the current situation of A Tribe Called Quest. Clearly one of the most influential hip hop group of all time. This is true for us at WIP Caps as we grew-up listening to these guys throughout Middle School and High School.
Anyway, don't miss out on this opportunity to watch it at B-Side. Good luck to you if you're hoping to watch it at your favorite cinemas out here in Manila.
Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest (2011) Movie Trailer HD
Remember, film starts at 10:30PM. There's gonna be free popcorn, special cocktails, free popcorn, Manila's illest DJs unloading track after track of your favorite Native Tongues joints. and did I mention FREE POPCORN?
Leaving you with one of my choice Tribe tracks.
Introducing! the Rasta Souljah reversible knit cap. We've taken the classic army knit cap and added our twist to it, or as we say in the office, we've wipped it!

Rasta Souljah comes in 4 colors. Khaki, Black, Olive and Dark Navy. There is no doubt this plays to the tune of our Reggae/Rasta heads out there. I mean the name alone is a dead give away. However, we haven't forgeten the other folks. Flip the cap inside out and you will get the same look minus the embroidery in the front. Perfect for those who want to rock a clean look. Check out the video for a quick demo.
Stay tuned for further announcements on the release dates for these bad boys. Better yet, come to IRIE SUNDAY 'DANCEHALL NIGHT' on the 24th for a special surprise. We got something cooked-up for the ladies who will be coming to rock the dance floor.

July 14 was Ian's birthday. Instead of throwing a massive party for himself, he's been doing this thing where he celebrates by giving to the less fortunate. Something we can all aspire to do whenever we can. The target for the day's deed were the kids of the Gawad Kalinga village in Smokey Mountain. Smokey Mountain is basically a huge trash dump in Manila city that is surrounded by slums. Imagine heaps and heaps of land made of smoldering trash.
Through the GK foundation and help from various entities, the community has been rehabilitated and the kids enjoy various sports programs. We met the kids that comprise the Baseball, Softball, Frisbee and Soccer teams.

Ian giving some words of encouragement to the eager young athletes

Each kid got a box lunch and a unreleased earlier version of the Hunter on the Storm cap.

Angelo, Mookie(Houston TX.) and MJ(San Francisco, CA.) pitched in. Mookie is actually a celebrity in his own rights for being on VH1's Motormouth. I'm digging through the Internet for the clip.

B-side is just spoiling Manila to death right now. Just straight killin it! The purveyor and curator of eclectic underground sound and the host of multiple epic events such as IRIE SUNDAY and DUBPLATE series (to name a few), is at it again. This time teaming-up with the legendary Los Angeles Backyard Boogie, The DO-OVER for a massive 1st ever ASIAN INVASION!

From left: Daz-I-Kue(Bugz In The Attic, UK/Atlanta), Rhettmatic(Beat Junkies | The Visionaries, Los Angeles)
Shortkut (Triple Threat | Beat Junkies | Invibl Skratch Piklz, San Francisco)
About The DO-OVER:
In the summer of 2005, Chris Haycock, Jamie Strong and Aloe Blacc set out to offer something different and unique to Los Angeles. We wanted to create a day that would integrate the city racially, socio-economically, and most importantly, musically. Together we imagined an event where all styles and smiles could be brought together by the force of quality music. As we celebrate our 7th Year Anniversary, we realize that the "little-idea-that-could" has morphed into something bigger -- much beyond our wildest expectations. It has become a party FOR THE PEOPLE and BY THE PEOPLE featuring your favorite DJs and their favorite DJs who remain a complete mystery week in and week out. People come to Do Over for the music, the friends, the vibe and the surprises. It is more than just a party. For many, Do Over is a way of life and an outlet to celebrate originality. From May through October, black, white, brown, gay, straight, rich and poor come together each and every Sunday to DO their weekend all OVER and get down to the sounds of hip-hop, funk, house, disco, rock, jazz, reggae, latin and beyond.

It's also a big day for us here at WIP Caps and the WIP heads out there as our very own WIP team player, Shortkut is back to rock the house. Must not miss!
In the mean time, check out the following videos to get your taste buds ready for next week.

Ever since we started on this adventure called WIP Caps, we've always had our meetings on Wednesdays. Dab smack middle of the week when the busy days have peaked and the weekend is within reach. We've come along way with this routine but we're more professional now and pretty much 0% alcohol. Been a while since I've had a Lapad & Coke.
We've got a new face this week. Banj is our new PR/Marketing guy. This is us doing a quick brief before he flies back to New York for a month.

Heeeeeey! You sank my battle ship!
A little tour around the office and we land at at the processing room. This is where everything happens, Quality Control, Tagging and packing you name it.

And holding it down is Gim. He's been with the team for about a year and a half now. A real asset to the company and is passionate about the products we churn out. Chances are the cap on your head has gone thru Gim's capable hands and braided goatee.

At this point, we'll pause for a quick announcement. I've said the Llanera's Skull will be available this week. Change of plans, we're pushing it back another week. We've recently singed-on another retail partner store and to commemorate, we'll be doing the Llanera Skull Kick-off at that shop next week. Keep checking back for announcement on the name and location of the shop.

Rex D also dropped by to get his. Keep an eye out for his viral videos and his new mixtape.

Originally scheduled to be released on June 12 Philippine Independence day, The Llanera Skull has finally arrived and will be available this week. Just giving you excite bikes a heads up but we'll make a formal announcement when its up in the store.

Last Saturday was our 'W' snapback and Lords fitteds launch at Chill Sessions (by Body Rock). Big-up to all the people that came out to kick it and support your local premium head wear brand. Good times meeting new friends, catching-up with oldies and Retail buddies. Anyway, here are some of the screened photos that our Legal department deemed OK and safe for publishing. Sorry kids, you just had to be there to understand exactly how much you missed out on.

DJ Rye brought a hefty serving of the Golden Age

What makes Chill Sessions different is, kids are totally welcome to play. They got tables setup with coloring and drawing and other cool stuff for the kids to do.

Here we have the man behind Chill Sessions and other Body Rock productions. Banj also just recently signed a multi-million dollar deal with WIP Caps as a Marketing consultant.
Also present was his better half and our long time friend Sarah and Kaya the wonder kid.

Quick bite. Ikkei's first time at Charlie's so he went all in and did the Double Angus with cheese. He gave it a 4 out of 5 blunts.
Mav(WIP Caps Marketing/Video and Motion Graphics) was breaking necks all night long with the still unreleased Ochos Locos fitted. Another anticipated Wasteland release.

Back on Deck, this time at We Legendary. Ian (WIP Caps President and GM) tagged some friends along. Addi, Jamie and wife Nichole.

We Legendary Ronac store manager Mhoi and Jojo aka KingKrux31
We Legendary is leading the independent skate scene here in Manila (and in Davao) bar none. WIP owes a lot of its growth and success to shops like WL. And the architect of it all is Mark(aka Specks). This dude is non-stop grind all the time but manages to not show it. Always humble and willing to help.

Ian aka Nate x Mark aka Specks

Drop by We Legendary (Ronac Center) to see the worlds largest pair of sneakers. Ask Mhoi for assistance and he will gladly open the box for you.

The Lords fitted is the 2nd installment(of 8) of our 'The Wasteland' series. The series is based on a fictional backdrop called The Wasteland. It was inspired by the gang related icons of the 1970 cult film The Warriors, where outlaws and gangs ruled New York City.
The Lords cap is a solid all black polyester cap with a Kelly Green underbill. The front logo is a play on the classic LA/Oakland Raiders logo. The iconic shield silhouette remains while the swords are replaced with Celtic swords and the WIP crown. As with all the other caps in the Wasteland series, we feature a secondary logo in the rear. The shield with an Old English 'L'.

W snapback is inspired by the classic Collegiate/Varsity look. The cap is a two-tone Light Grey dome with all Black Visor. The 'W' logo is done in Black and White Letterman style and stands for WIP.
Both the Lords and W caps are available now at select WIP Stockists and will be available at HatClub.com in a few weeks.
