Last year, the Gawad Kalinga SipaG football program organized the LBC Foundation Liga GK, a grassroots futsal/street football league where 10 low income communities from Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Manila, Paranaque and Taguig participated in a 5 month home and away league. The Closing Ceremonies of the Liga GK was attended by Japanese street artist Kohei "Baki-Baki" Yamao who has left his signature patterns in many places all over the world, and has also done commissioned work for Nike, McDonald's and FIFA. He's also collaborated with WIP!
Baki-Baki flew in from Japan to conduct a collaborative mural painting with the youth participants of GK called "The Joy and the Love of Football" while the teams battled it out on the final day of the season. GK SipaG is close to WIP's heart as it was co-founded and continues to be hand held by two WIP founders who use the program as one concrete expression for their love of youth, football (for the masses) and the Filipino nation.
Special thanks to Mari Torres!
