We're proud to premiere the long-awaited second episode of Weed In Progress: an ongoing series aimed at sharing stories, wisdom and inspiration regarding the issue of Cannabis. This time, we sat down with some influential local voices in the scene to discover their unique perspectives and share them with the rest of the world.
Although there's nothing illegal about discussing the topic, there's no denying the risk and hesitation involved in the filming of this episode, considering the current climate and attitude against drugs in the country. These six respected artists have their identities obscured for their protection since the stigma is still very much an issue despite the recent efforts to legalize medical Cannabis in the Philippines. This is the first crucial step towards progress, however, we still have a long way to go in educating both the government and Filipinos regarding the many benefits of this plant and the misconceptions it has endured throughout the years.
We’d like to express our deep gratitude and appreciation for those we interviewed in this piece who allowed us to lend their voices to the cause despite the risks associated in doing so.
In the midst of progressive Cannabis law reforms worldwide, including some neighoring Asian countries, our own medical marijuana bill has recently passed its 2nd reading in congress. According to many international studies, its uses extend beyond the treatment of debilitating diseases like cancer, epilepsy or neurological illnesses—it can also aid in improving physical, mental and emotional health, inspire creativity, spirituality and a renewed connection to our earth and each other as a community.
